Make Me Green - Direct Energy Business Solutions
Demonstrate Your Commitment to a Cleaner Environment
Small businesses can demonstrate their commitment to a cleaner environment by supporting renewable energy generation. Make Me Green is a Renewable Energy Certificate (RECs) purchasing program. RECs offer small business owners one of the most convenient ways to support the advancement of renewable energy technologies while demonstrating your commitment to your customers and your community.
What is Make Me Green renewable energy certificate?
A single renewable energy certificate (REC) represents the positive attributes associated with generating 1 mWh of renewable energy. RECs are created when a renewable electricity generator produces energy that will be transmitted through the electricity “grid.” A REC stands as evidence of a consumer’s support of renewable energy production. The electricity that enters the regional transmission grid and the associated REC are sold separately.
To ensure that our customers are purchasing RECs with real environmental benefits, we offer RECs that carry Green-e Energy certification.
What benefits does Make Me Green offer?
Make Me Green benefits the environment and your business.
- Your Make Me Green REC purchase is an investment into technologies using renewable resources such as wind, solar, low-impact hydro, or biomass. Over time, these technologies can reduce our dependency on energy generated with fossil fuels, which are believed to have adverse impacts on the environment.
- We can help you customize your Make Me Green purchase to meet your goals and budget. You can choose the percentage of your annual consumption that you wish to offset. We can also offer RECs produced by specific technologies (wind, solar) or in specific geographic regions.
- Your Make Me Green purchase provides a cost-effective way to promote your business as environmentally responsible. It can also support your participation in programs such as the U.S. EPA Green Power Partner program or achievement of LEED certification standards.
Will my service change?
Your purchase of renewable energy certificates through Make Me Green has no impact on your electricity service—whether your supply is from Direct Energy Business or another energy supplier. In fact, Make Me Green is available to any business, including those not located in deregulated energy markets.
Your electricity supply is still delivered to your business by the local distribution company or utility in your service area.
- This local distribution company or utility will continue to provide maintenance, read your meter and respond to emergency service calls.
- Direct Energy Business is responsible for securing Green-e Energy certified RECs and providing proof of your purchase.
- Your Make Me Green purchase will be reflected on your monthly invoices. Direct Energy Business will issue your monthly invoices and accept your payments. If you have questions about your contract or your bill, you can contact our Customer Care Center at 888.925.9115.
