City of Toronto Enters into 20MW Contract with Direct Energy
The City of Toronto has engaged Direct Energy to be one of its key retailers of power. This is the latest in a series of recent deals in which Direct Energy has been selected to provide Canadian townships, municipalities and cities with energy solutions that help mitigate their energy price risk.
Direct Energy’s fixed price contracts aid the City in managing the risk associated with electricity price volatility, allowing the City to gain greater control over power costs. This contract will allow the City of Toronto to help alleviate the budget certainty challenges that often affect cities, municipalities and communities throughout Canada.

Centrica Included in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index
On September 22, it was announced that Centrica was again included in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). The CDLI recognizes companies who have provided the most complete data to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) on the opportunities and risks posed to them by climate change. Centrica has been a participant in the CDP’s annual Information Requests for six years and was first recognized as a CDLI member last year.
Each year, the requirements for CDLI recognition have increased, as have the number of respondents. This year, 1,550 companies responded to the CDP, including 383 (77 percent) of the FTSE Global 500 and 64 percent of the S&P 500. Of the 1,550 companies who responded, only 67 companies were recognized on the CDLI.

Centrica Acquires Onshore Gas Storage Project
Centrica plc announced its acquisition of Caythorpe Gas Storage Limited (CGSL), the second significant gas storage project this year, from Warwick Energy for £70 million in cash.
CGSL owns the onshore Caythorpe gas producing field near Bridlington in East Yorkshire, which is a substantially depleted onshore gas field located close to the National Transmission System. Caythorpe has planning permission for conversion to an onshore gas storage facility with a capacity of up to 7.5 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas. The project would require additional capital investment of around £100 million and could be operational by the winter of 2011/12.
