Direct Energy Aggregation Customers to See Significant Decrease in Electricity Rate
 
On Feb. 5, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commissioners approved an agreement that will extend the term and significantly lower the price of Direct Energy’s residential and small commercial aggregation program within the Pike County Light & Power Company (PCLP) service territory. The term – renewed for another two years – includes a new fixed rate of $0.098 per kWh, almost 18 percent lower than last year’s aggregation price. The new rate will go into effect June 1, 2009.

Centrica Acquires Additional 67 Percent Share in North Sea Gas Development
Centrica plc, the parent company of British Gas, today announced it has reached agreement with Hess Limitedto acquire a 67 per cent interest in the undeveloped York gas fields in the Southern North Sea for £22 million in cash.  The acquisition adds to the 23 per cent of the development acquired as part of the Rough gas storage acquisition in 2003, and takes Centrica's interest in the fields to 90 per cent.  The York gas development represents the largest known undeveloped gas reserve in the southern sector of the North Sea.

British Gas First to Announce Gas Price Cuts for Over 7.5 Million Homes
British Gas today announced it will cut gas prices by 10 percent from 19 February 2009. The reduction will apply to all customers on British Gas' standard tariff, benefiting more than 7.5million homes. The price cut, which will save customers £84 on the average annual household gas bill, is the first standard gas tariff cut by a major energy supplier since 2007.

Centrica Completes Acquisition of Additional 25.5% Stake in SPE
In late January, Centrica plc completed the purchase of GDF SUEZ's 25.5 per cent stake in SPE SA (SPE), giving Centrica a controlling 51 per cent shareholding in the Belgian generation and supply company.
