District Municipality of Muskoka Engages Direct Energy Business to Supply Green Power

Graham Leith, Senior Director of Energy Sales--Direct Energy Business, along with Tom Marshall, Business Development Manager--Direct Energy Business, present a plaque to District Chair Gord Adams, recognizing the District Municipality of Muskoka’s green energy purchase.
The District Municipality of Muskoka recently engaged Direct Energy Business to supply the District and select townships with green power. The District Municipality of Muskoka, Township of the Lake of Bays, Township of Muskoka Lakes and Township of Georgian Bay have committed to offsetting 10 percent of their total electrical load through the purchase of Renewable Energy Attributes from Ecologoä-Certified renewable power.
Direct Energy Business recognized the District’s commitment to the environment at the March 30 public council meeting. The amount of CO2 offset by the District and Townships is equivalent to the CO2 emissions created by the combustion of over 130,000 litres of gasoline by a standard family sedan.
“We take a great deal of pride in being a beautiful, natural area and we’ve invested a lot in protecting the environment,” said Gord Adams, District Chair, District Municipality of Muskoka. “This really is a win-win-win situation, where Direct Energy Business, the District and the environment all benefit from our efforts to make Muskoka a better place to live and visit.”
