Direct Energy Wins Dominion East Ohio Auction
Direct Energy recently gained more than 62,000 customers in the Dominion East Ohio (DEO) service territory after being selected a winner in the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) auction. This auction assigned all of DEO’s choice-eligible natural gas customers to a competitive supplier.  Direct Energy, one of 10 suppliers who participated in the bidding process, was successful in winning three groups of customers.

Direct Energy Regulated Services Announces Natural Gas Rates for May
Direct Energy Regulated Services has announced default natural gas rates for May 2009. These rates will apply to customers who have not chosen a competitive supplier within the ATCO Gas North and South service territories. The rates have been verified by the Alberta Utilities Commission.

Lower Prices Coming for CPL Customers
CPL Retail Energy is lowering prices for its residential Direct Electricity Plan customers for the second time this year. Effective May 5, all residential customers on the Direct Electricity Plan will see their electricity prices reduced by at least 6 percent. Coupled with a 15 percent price-down that took effect at the end of February, the resulting average annualized savings will be approximately $480 per household.

Direct Energy Continues Opt-out Program for Trumbull County Aggregation
Trumbull County (Ohio) Commissioners and Direct Energy are continuing to allow eligible residents and small commercial customers to participate in the county’s opt-out aggregation program. The Trumbull County opt-out aggregation is a program in which customers who are being served by the utility are automatically included in the opt-out aggregation unless they decide not to participate.

City of Marietta Locks in Natural Gas Rates Early for Winter
The City of Marietta Ohio has locked in a competitive natural gas rate of $6.98 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) for most of the 2009 winter season as part of its residential and small commercial aggregation program with Direct Energy. The Marietta opt-out aggregation is a program in which customers who are currently being served by the utility are automatically included in the opt-out aggregation unless they decide not to participate.

Centrica to Invest in EDF Nuclear Business in the UK; EDF to Acquire Controlling Stake in SPE from Centrica
EDF Group and Centrica plc announced that they have reached a definitive agreement whereby Centrica will invest in EDF’s nuclear business in the UK, encompassing the current British Energy nuclear power station fleet and the development and construction of the next generation of nuclear power stations which will be central to securing the future electricity requirements of the UK.  
 
Centrica will acquire a 20 percent interest in British Energy, the operator of eight existing nuclear power stations of which EDF acquired control of in January 2009.  EDF and Centrica will also form an 80/20 joint venture to pursue a planned program to build four new nuclear power stations in the UK.  In addition, the EDF Group will acquire Centrica’s 51 percent stake in Belgian generation and supply business SPE.

Centrica Confirms Earnings Guidance and Makes Progress with Upstream Investments
Centrica has performed well in the year-to-date due mainly to the combination of cold weather, which increased demand for gas and power in the UK and North America, along with falling wholesale commodity prices caused by consistent supply and weak demand from large industrial users.

Centrica Welcomes Opening of UK Gas Link to Qatar
Centrica recently welcomed the opening of the Qatar partnership's South Hook liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, and has outlined the important role Qatar will play in supplying LNG to the UK. The South Hook terminal in Milford Haven is the first project to involve Qatar in the UK gas industry and follows the opening of the Qatargas 2 LNG gasification plant in Qatar last month. Gas from Qatargas 2 will be unloaded at South Hook and go directly into the UK's gas network.
This significant milestone in bringing supply and consuming nations together will be a huge boost to UK energy security.

British Gas cuts Electricity Prices
British Gas, the largest supplier of electricity to homes in Britain and part of the Centrica group, cut electricity prices by an average 10 percent off its standard electricity prices in early May.  The price cut for 4.5 million customers, which took effect in early May, makes British Gas, on average, the cheapest electricity supplier in Britain.
