Direct Energy Business Announces Commitment to Pennsylvania
Last month, Direct Energy Business announced its Committed to Pennsylvania initiative, which involves helping Pennsylvania businesses
succeed through greater control over energy costs, expanding operations in the Pennsylvania market, and investing up to $2.5 million in community programs that promote energy conservation, renewable energy options and other philanthr opic efforts. In addition, Direct Energy Business also announced plans to sign a five-year lease and keep its headquarters in Downtown Pittsburgh, which will protect 250 jobs and amount to approximately $25 million in annual spending in the state.
Direct Energy Business celebrated this important announcement, along with the one-year anniversary of Direct Energy’s acquisition of Strategic Energy to form Direct Energy Business, at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on May 27. Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell spoke at the event and was joined by other industry officials, including James Cawley, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), and John Hanger, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Direct Energy Business has been helping more than 1,700 businesses across the state manage their energy costs since the market opened to energy choice in 1997. We began our operations more than 20 years ago in Pennsylvania and are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to help additional customers in the state who may be looking for new procurement strategies as the competitive market continues to evolve. In addition, Direct Energy Business has been working behind the scenes with government officials and key decision-makers since the state deregulated to advocate on behalf of legislation that allows competitive markets to flourish and provides choice and competitive options for consumers in the state.
